Post and Packaging Advice…

Seeds:

Fold seeds up into a piece of paper (So that they don’t fall out) and write what seeds it contains. Place in an envelope and post.

Plugs (young plants with root ball):

Care should be taken to prevent damage to the root ball and foliage.

You can wrap them in newspaper or bubble wrap and pack them into a small box.

Alternatively use a GardenSwapShop blister pack, designed especially for this purpose and because they are so strong they can be used again and again. (Click here to search for packaging).

Large plants:

Larger items can be packed into an ordinary cardboard box. Pack newspaper tightly around the base/roots so that they cannot be moved. Then carefully pack bubble wrap or newspaper around the foliage.

Clearly mark the box on the top with ‘LIVE PLANTS – This Way Up’. Don’t forget to post immediately and when receiving items, as with all plants, unpack and plant as soon as possible.

If items, like trees, are very large or heavy you can also state on your items listing: ‘Buyer to collect’, meaning that you are happy for someone to collect it. For your own security, we recommend that you arrange to meet up at a mutually acceptable place (perhaps at a supermarket car park or somewhere half way between both parties.) If you wish to allow the person to collect from your home please note that we are unable to take any responsibility for that persons visit and you are giving your details out at your own risk.
